Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture – Management Brief

Fertilizer companies are represented on a new workgroup formed by Washington, D.C.-based Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture, tasked with exploring innovative finance mechanisms and value-added incentive strategies to support U.S. farmers in scaling conservation practices and delivering sustainable outcomes. The group seeks to bring greater focus to how the value chain can support growers in managing the agronomic and financial risk inherent in transitioning to new practices that are necessary to build a more resilient food and agriculture system.

Fertilizer companies are represented by Nutrien Ltd.’s Jeff Peters, Head of Sustainability and Paul Duncan, Director of Sustainability at Anuvia Plant Nutrients. Other ag-related members include Julie DiNatale, Senior Director, External Affairs, Granular, Corteva; Laura Gentry, Director of Water Quality Science, Illinois Corn Growers Association; Kira Everhart-Valentine of the United Sorghum Checkoff Program; and Jeff O’Connor, O’Connor Grain Farms.

Shelby Swain Myers, Economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation, Co-Chairs the group along with Maggie Monast, Director of Working Lands, Environmental Defense Fund.

The workgroup convenes 20 members with equal representation from Field to Market’s Grower, Agribusiness, Brands & Retail, Civil Society and Affiliate membership sectors who will serve for a 12-month term.
