The Grant County Sheriff called for the evacuation of a third of the small town of Warden, Wash., Thursday, Jan. 21, at 8:30 p.m., citing fears that a 5,500 gallon ammonia tank inside a burning potato facility would explode.
The fire began around 5:30 p.m. at the Washington Potato Co.’s dehydrator, according to the Spokesman-Review. While initial fears were that the entire complex would be engulfed and the tank might explode, the evacuation notice was lifted Friday around 1:00 a.m. and residents were told they could return home.
