Brazil Fertilizer Plan Expected in December

Brazil’s federal government plans to release details in December of its National Fertilizer Plan, which is aimed at reducing Brazil’s dependence on imports. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the goal is to reduce external dependence over 30 years, which today is approximately 85 percent, to 60 percent.

While the actions will not solve the current crisis, they are seen as important to mitigating the risks to the country in the future. Among the proposed actions are: tax incentives for national production, mapping of possible areas of mineral exploration, debureaucratization of the production chain, credit lines for investors in the sector, incentives for research and development of new technologies, and campaigns aimed at guiding the use of fertilizers optimally in the field.
