Russian producer JSC TogliattiAzot (TOAZ) restarted ammonia production at its No. 3 unit, according to a July 8 press release. The unit, which had been idled since October 2023, was restarted to meet robust domestic demand for ammonia and mineral fertilizers.
“Togliattiazot’s products are in high demand among both farmers and specialists in other fields. Therefore, it is very important for the company to meet market demands. Optimizing production processes should ensure the required volumes,” said TOAZ Chief Engineer Andrei Kurgin.
The No. 3 unit joins three newer GIAP ammonia units, Nos. 5, 6, and 7, which were already running, TOAZ said. TOAZ added that its shipments increased 22% in the first half of the year. In 2023, the Russian major produced 1.64 million mt of urea and 1.60 million mt of ammonia. TOAZ in June announced plans to expand ammonia and urea production by 2035.
