India and Japan inked an agreement on Aug. 20 for the export of green ammonia from India to Japan. The deal was signed in the presence of the Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi of India.
The Heads of Terms agreement was formalized by Sembcorp Industries, Sojitz Corp., Kyushu Electric Power, and NYK Line. As part of the agreement, Sembcorp will produce green ammonia using renewable resources while Kyushu will incorporate the green ammonia into its power plants in Japan with the goal of reducing coal consumption. Sojitz will act as a business intermediary, while NYK Line will oversee the maritime transportation of the green ammonia.
“Today is a historic day as we mark the first-ever agreement for the supply of green ammonia from India to Japan,” Joshi said. “This agreement will help establish a robust supply chain from production in India to consumption in Japan, paving the way for future collaborations in the green energy sector.”
