Manatee County Commissioners voted 5-2 Feb. 15 to approve The Mosaic Co.’s request to rezone some 3,600 acres in the county for phosphate mining. Opponents, citing the recent New Wales sinkhole, have turned out in force at the meeting and two earlier hearings. Opponents are vowing to continue legal action.
