LSB Industries Inc. on Jan. 20 reported that its Cherokee, Ala., nitrogen plant began a phased restart on Saturday, Jan. 14. The facility had been shut down in late December due to the extremely cold temperatures that impacted much of the US (GM Jan. 6, p. 1).
LSB first reported the outage on Dec. 30, along with another at El Dorado, Ark., also due to the cold temperatures. However, the El Dorado plant had a quicker restart, and repairs were necessary at Cherokee.
LSB management now expects fourth-quarter 2022 adjusted EBITDA to be in the range of approximately $100-$105 million, which includes the previously announced $5-$7 million impact to operating profit of the Cherokee outage coupled with the effects of declines in selling prices of ammonia and other nitrogen products that occurred during December.
