K+S, Kalium Lakes Firm Up Deal for SOP Offtake

K+S Group, Kassel, has inked an agreement with Australian junior company, Kalium Lakes Ltd., for the purchase of up to 90,000 mt/y of potassium sulfate (SOP). K+S said the deal is for ten years and ensures it has exclusive access to the first SOP production in Australia. It follows a nonbinding deal struck by the two parties in June 2018. Kalium Lakes expects to take a final investment decision on its Beyondie SOP project, 160 km southeast of Newman in Western Australia, in the second quarter of this year, and the first significant SOP volumes are expected by the end of 2020/start of 2021.
