On May 30, Bharat Coal Gasification & Chemicals Ltd. (BCGCL) on May 3 issued a tender for the selection of a contractor for the syngas purification plant and ammonia synthesis gas plant for India’s first commercial-scale venture using surface coal gasification technology.
The plant will utilize high ash coal from Lakhanpur Area to produce 0.66 million mt/y of technical grade ammonium nitrate in Odisha state. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for June 28, and a deadline for bid queries was set for June 21. BCGCL is a joint venture between India Limited (CIL) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and represents the two public companies’ first coal-to-chemical project.
