Steven Markey has joined CF Industries Inc. as director, sales strategy, a new position reporting to Monty Summa, vice president, sales. Markey will work with the company’s sales organization on various strategic initiatives and other sales-related activities.
Most recently, Markey was director, crop nutrients product management, with Agriliance LLC. He has also worked in sales management positions with Mississippi Chemical Corp. and Cargill Inc.
Bill Hume of E.I. DuPont De Nemours & Co. has been chosen as 2007 chairman of the Western Plant Health Association. Hume’s appointment came shortly after the WPHA board of directors learned that Zoë Henderson of Dow AgroSciences – elected 2007 chairwoman during WPHA’s annual meeting in October – had received a company promotion requiring her to move to the United Kingdom in January. Subsequently, she stepped down as chairwoman. Hume started in the crop protection industry 20 years ago, working for companies FMC and Griffin LLC. When DuPont purchased Griffin LLC, Hume remained with the company as its regional sales manager in Fresno, Calif.
Robert B. Johnson, 78, of Columbia, S.C., died unexpectedly Jan. 28. He had held several positions within the fertilizer industry. He was currently president and chairman of New Basica Inc., and was a chemical industry consultant. He was also the president of Messilla Valley Fertilizer Co., and was the founder, chairman, and president of BCM Inc. In addition, he worked for W.R. Grace and Co. and Ashcraft Wilkinson. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, and three grandchildren. Charles Edwin Rivers, 70, of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, passed away Jan. 30 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was co-owner and retired from Mid-Ohio Chemical, Washington Courthouse, Ohio. The company was sold to Vigoro and is currently owned by Crop Production Services, a unit of Agrium Inc. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sons, and seven grandchildren.
