The Fertilizer Institute on Feb. 6 announced the election of Michael Bennett, president and CEO of Terra Industries Inc., to serve a two-year term as chairman of TFI’s board of directors. In addition, the board tapped Robert Jornayvaz III, founder and managing partner of The Intrepid Companies, to serve a two-year term as vice chairman.

Sam Singh has been appointed general manager ?Çô Sulfur Sales for Shell Sulphur Solutions, according to Egbert Veldman, vice president. Singh will be responsible for global sulfur sales and customer relationships. He replaced Ken Keenan, who will retire on Feb. 29 after 33 years with the company. Singh was previously with Shell Aviation and will work out of London.
PhosCan Chemical Corp. said Feb. 4 that James (Jim) Gowans has been nominated for election to the board of directors. He is the president and CEO of De Beers Canada Inc., a member of the De Beers Group of Companies. Jim has more than thirty years of experience in the mining industry, including exploration, major projects, operations, and human resources. Prior to joining De Beers Canada in March 2006, Jim held senior posts with PT Inco Indonesia, Placer Dome, and Cominco Ltd. (now Teck Cominco Ltd.). Shareholders will decide on the nomination March 4 at a special meeting.
