Athabasca Potash Inc. has appointed Mr. Terry Walbaum, P.E., to the position of chief operating officer. The company said he has 29 years of experience in engineering design, procurement, construction management, and environmental management. He has worked with a wide range of projects at SNC-Lavalin for 27 years, including those involving potash.


Potash One Inc. has appointed Mike Ferguson as project director for its Legacy Potash project in southeastern Saskatchewan. Potash One says Ferguson is a professional engineer and senior project manager with significant experience in the Saskatchewan uranium and potash industries. His potash experience began in 1984 when he worked in an underground potash mining operation, and continued through maintenance engineering work in a potash mill and on to engineering design and project delivery. He has worked for all the major potash producers in Saskatchewan, including The Mosaic Co., Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan, and Agrium Inc. He has also led projects overseas in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Most recently, Ferguson served as a general manager for Wardrop Engineering, and operations manager with AMEC.


The Scotts Miracle-Gro Co. has appointed Richard Shank as chief environmental officer. Shank will oversee the implementation of environmental stewardship and corresponding governmental affairs initiatives. He succeeds Rich Martinez, who was named to the newly created position of vice president, North America sustainability. Martinez’s new role will focus on ensuring consensus of sustainability and environmental goals across all of the company’s business operations and functions.

Shank previously served as executive director of the Ohio Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, vice president for environmental business activities with Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC), and director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Toxicology from The Ohio State University, where he also earned a master’s degree in Zoology/Aquatic Toxicology and a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources.
