Technip to build Tunisian sulfuric acid plant

Paris-Technip reports that Tunisian Indian Fertilizers (TIFERT) has awarded it an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) lumpsum contract for a sulfuric acid unit to be built at the La Skhira industrial site in Tunisia. The unit, which will be based on the Monsanto Enviro-Chem Systems (MECS) process, will have a production capacity of 3,600 tons per day. It is part of the TIFERT project, which will use sulfuric acid and phosphate to produce phosphoric acid for use in fertilizers. The unit is expected to go into production at the beginning of 2010. This contract will be executed by Technip’s operating center in Paris. Technip says the award strengthens its presence in North Africa and demonstrates the group’s expertise in fertilizer production units.
