GateFront LLC, a subsidiary of Helena Chemical Co., has started construction on a deep water liquid and dry fertilizer terminal in Corpus Christi, Texas. The initial 70,000 st liquid terminal phase of the project is expected to be completed in 12 months, and a 50,000 st dry terminal should be completed within 24 months. The facility is being built to provide access to global supplies to better serve Helena locations.
The twenty-acre complex is located on the Corpus Christi Port Authority Channel. It has a deep water draft of no less than 45 continuous feet. The facility is being constructed to offload import vessels and to reload barges, railcars, and trucks. The complex, which will have 24-hour automated truck access, will also be serviced by UP and BN rail systems.
Helena already has a large footprint in Texas, according to a company spokesman, who told Green Markets that the company has approximately 38 locations in the state.
One of the largest agricultural distributors in the U.S., Helena is headquartered in Collierville, Tenn. It has over 300 sales locations across the country.
