Alpharetta, Ga.-Organic Growing Systems, Inc. expects that the recent renewal of its contract with the Houston, Texas-based Harris County Flood Control District will result in the district using as much as $1 million of its TOP 4-2-2 organic fertilizer, which is produced from processed chicken litter. National Sales Manager Marc Nichols told Green Markets that sales to the district, which bought in approximately $500,000 last year, have been increasing steadily since 2007, and that those continued gains are expected to boost the figure to between $750,000 and $1 million this year. Overall, Nichols added, it’s only a small percentage of the total business Organic Growing is anticipating for 2009. “This year we are bringing on a lot of new business, which includes a sizeable number of national customers,” Nichols reported. He said the southwest has been “tremendously successful” for the company. Nichols explained that Harris County began utilizing TOP Organic fertilizer because it meets their requirements to apply a product that is slow release and fast acting, reduces water consumption, and has a positive impact on soil chemistry.
