Cairo-Orascom Construction Industries said May 5 that a toll-manufacturing agreement to produce ammonium sulfate using ammonia taken from that exclusively marketed by the company in the international export market has been signed by the OCI Fertilizer Group with the Egyptian Financial and Industrial Corp. (EFIC). OCI will supply up to 78,000 mt of ammonia annually, which will produce up to 300,000 mt of ammonium sulfate per year and be distributed and sold exclusively by the OCI Fertilizer Group, pursuant to the agreement. Both companies will supply the anhydrous ammonia and sulfuric acid, which are main ingredients for ammonium sulfate, at prevailing market prices. The OCI Fertilizer Group has plants in Egypt with a total producing capacity of 2 million mt of nitrogen-based fertilizers per annum, has an investment in a Nigerian facility, and has a fertilizer complex in an Algerian partnership with state-owned Sonatrach that will begin production in 2010.
