Rio de Janeiro-Brazilian mining giant Vale said July 17 that it has no plans to bid for The Mosaic Co. after all. A day earlier, Vale had refused to comment at all on reports published in Brazil that it was readying a US$25 billion bid for Mosaic. The news released on July 16 drove Mosaic shares to as high as $54.36; on July 17 however, they sank back to close at $49.56 once Vale’s comments were released.
