SynGest receives zoning for new ammonia plant

San Francisco-The Guthrie County, Iowa, Zoning Commission and Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved SynGest Inc.’s request to amend current zoning from A-1 agricultural to M-2 heavy industrial for the proposed BioAmmonia project to be located near Menlo, Iowa, about 45 miles west of Des Moines. With re-zoning complete, all of the major obstacles to begin construction of the world’s first BioAmmonia production facility have been removed. The SynGest Menlo project team is engaged in pre-construction engineering and anticipates a construction start date in the first half of 2010. The plant will use 150,000 st/y of corn cobs as feedstock to produce about 50,000 st/y of anhydrous ammonia.
