OCI board approves fertilizer expansion

Egypt-Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) reports that its board of directors has approved the expansion of its nitrogen-based product portfolio to include UAN, with an annual production capacity of 325,000 mt/y, and ammonium sulfate, with an annual capacity of 300,000 mt/y. OCI announced earlier a 20 percent capacity increase expansion at its 100 percent owned urea production plant in Egypt. The total capital expenditure program for these expansions is currently estimated at US$200 million. The new production facilities are expected to be commissioned in phases during the next 24 months. The OCI Fertilizer Group has plants based in Egypt capable of producing a total of 2.0 million mt of nitrogen-based fertilizers annually. In 2010/2011, OCI’s fertilizer complex in Algeria, in partnership with state-owned Sonatrach, will begin production with a total capacity of 2.0 million mt of nitrogen-based fertilizers. The Group also has an investment in a fertilizer plant in Nigeria. With production from Algeria and the expansion in Egypt, the OCI Fertilizer Group will firmly place among top world producers.
