Russia gets its own merger mania

Moscow-Private Russian phosphate producer PhosAgro has asked the government to allow it to merge with potash producer Silvinit, according to The Moscow Times. Alternatively, Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov, who bought controlling interest in potash producer Uralkali in June, is reportedly eyeing a Uralkali-Silvinit combination. Speculation later in the week was that PotashCorp and mining giant Rio Tinto might be interested in a stake in Uralkali.
