Washington-The Agricultural Retailers Association on Jan. 12 released a final version of its model fertilizer contract confirmation, which was first unveiled in November and discussed in detail at the ARA 2009 Conference and Expo in early December (GM Dec. 14, 2009). ARA said the contract confirmation is meant to serve as a voluntary tool to help companies better manage their risks, have more accountability, and provide the industry with common and consistent terms and conditions when dealing with suppliers or customers. The ARA Board of Directors initially approved the contract at the ARA Conference and Expo in Florida. Conference attendees and ARA members were requested to provide additional input to ARA in order to improve the document to meet the needs of the agricultural retail-distribution industry. The contract confirmation was developed by ARA’s Fertilizer Contract Task Force in response to “the extreme volatility that has occurred with fertilizer prices and supplies over the past few years.” A copy of the final fertilizer contract confirmation is available at the ARA website at www.aradc.org.
