Washington, D.C.-According to the June 29 Acreage and Grain Stocks report published by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, the 2007 planted corn acreage of 92.9 million acres is up 19 percent from the 78.3 million acres planted in 2006, and is 2.4 million acres more than USDA’s March forecast. In contrast, soybean acres were estimated at 64.1 million acres, down 15 percent from the record high acreage planted in 2006. Wheat acreage estimates were also raised from March’s 60.3 million estimate, with the June projection coming in at 60.5 million acres, a 5.5 percent increase over 2006. Planted cotton acres in 2007, however, were estimated at 11.1 million acres, 28 percent below last year and the lowest since 1989.
