DHB to sell CNR facility in Minnesota

Rosemount, Minn.-The Continental Nitrogen Resources Corp. facility at Rosemount, Minn., is currently for sale, and according to a source for DHB Holdings Inc. the company thinks it has a buyer. If the deal goes through as planned, the transaction will close in early June, and CNR, which is owned by DHB, will effectively exit the fertilizer market. The entire site included in the sale comprises 103 acres, which contain CNR’s ammonia (25,000 st) and UAN (25,000 st) terminal and a 25,000 st dry bulk warehouse that is currently leased to Honeywell for the storage of ammonium sulfate. The prospective buyer, rumored to be a startup bio-fuels company, would continue the lease with Honeywell, but ammonia and UAN would no longer be offered from that location. DHB retains exclusive marketing rights to a small ammonia plant in Clairton, Penn., and will focus on its ammonium nitrate business that serves the industrial and explosive markets. The company’s ammonium nitrate plant in Brandon, Manitoba, has annual capacity of 150,000 st. The Pennsylvania ammonia plant (15,000 st/y) sells almost exclusively to the industrial market, with only a small amount offered to the ag market in Pennsylvania and southeastern Ohio. For the near term, DHB’s industrial nitrogen products will continue to be marketed and sold by CNR, with explosives materials marketed under the Viking Explosives and Supply Inc. banner.
