FDEP disagrees with Judge on Ona Mine

Tallahassee-The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) has decided it will not reevaluate a request for a permit for Mosaic Co.’s Ona Mine, despite a request by a judge from the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings. FDEP originally recommended approval of the application, but the judge asked it to reevaluate that recommendation after a study on the cumulative impact on the Peace River indicated damage from previous mining activities. Opponents of the mine were continuing their appeal.
