Wilmington, N.C.– Koch Nitrogen International, Sàrl has begun shipping and storing fertilizer products from a new terminal on the Cape Fear River. Carolina Marine Terminal Inc. owns, manages, and operates the terminal and leases it to Koch Nitrogen International. “Our new location provides us with an improved ability to deliver quality urea and fertilizer products to meet the growing needs of our local industrial and agricultural customers,” said Jamil Toubassi, managing director for Koch Nitrogen International. “This location is well-positioned for efficient access by truck and rail, and offers state-of-the-art loading capabilities.” The recently completed terminal features storage domes, built by DOMTEC International, LLC of Idaho Falls, Idaho, with 30,000 tons of capacity and multi-product terminal capabilities. The terminal, which was completed in July, has a 400-foot-long breasting berth dock, a 900-foot dolphin tie-up span, and a 40-foot maximum vessel draft. Vessels are served by a 100-ton Gottwald Model 330 four-rope crane. In addition, the terminal has a high-speed rail and truck load-out system designed and manufactured by A.J. Sackett & Sons, Inc. of Baltimore, Md. The main conveying system, manufactured and installed by Basic Machinery Company Inc. of Siler City, N.C., includes a 60-inch-wide main causeway conveyor belt with a 2,000 ton-per-hour discharging capability, complemented by a 200-foot-long, 2,000 ton-per-hour stacker conveyor. Loading speed from the domes to railcars and trucks is 350 tons per hour.
