Tel Aviv-ICL Fertilizers, a unit of Israel Chemicals Ltd., reported Aug. 19 that due to labor sanctions by employees at the Rotem Amfert Negev plant, raw materials and products are being prevented from entering and leaving the plant. In addition, ICL said employees have also taken action to lower production. ICL said a number of manufacturing operations have been halted. As a result, if the sanctions continue, ICL said other facilities may be shut down in a number of days, which could lead to a complete shutdown of the Rotem plant’s operations. Employee actions are a result of disagreements with management over a new work agreement. Rotem Amfert Negev makes products based on phosphate rock, leading to downstream products including phosphoric acids, fertilizers, specialty chemicals, and phosphate salts.
