Terra Industries Inc. reports that Mark Kalafut, 53, vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary, retired effective Oct. 6. He joined Terra’s agribusiness subsidiary in 1989 as general counsel.
Terra has announced the appointment of two new board members, expanding board membership to eight. James Kroner, 45, an experienced investment banker, was most recently CFO and chief investment officer of Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd., a firm he helped form in 2001. Dennis McGlone, 56, was most recently the CEO and president of Copperweld Corp. He retired in 2005.
Dennis Bergeson has been appointed vice president, supply chain and engineering, for Compass Minerals. He will be responsible for worldwide supply chain activities, including purchasing, logistics, production planning, and customer service. He will also lead the company’s engineering resources, focusing on effective deployment of capital, operational excellence, productivity initiatives, and growth-investment opportunities.
Prior to joining Compass, Bergeson was the business director of brominated performance products at Chemtura Corp. Bergeson first joined one of Chemtura’s predecessor companies, Great Lakes Chemicals, in 1999, and served in a variety of supply chain and product management roles. Prior to joining Great Lakes Chemicals, he worked for Shell Chemical Co. for 15 years in both operations and engineering capacities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Tufts University, completed graduate-level work in engineering at the Colorado School of Mines, and earned an MBA from Purdue University.
