Management Briefs

Bob Smith, CEO of California Ammonia Co. (Calamco) has announced his retirement effective December 2007, according to Alan Freese, Calamco’s chairman of the board of directors. Bob has over 46 years in the fertilizer business, all with Calamco. He was originally employed by Calamco as the second employee hired when Calamco initiated its own marketing in 1984, and has contributed greatly over the years to our long-term success, said Freese, adding that under Bob’s excellent leadership, Calamco has provided a consistent, low-cost source of nitrogen products to the California market.

“Bob has been an outstanding advocate for our industry and the California growers for many years, and will certainly be missed” said Freese. “The board of directors will be reviewing potential replacement candidates and expect to have a replacement identified by early spring. Bob has agreed to play a key role in assuring a smooth transition and mentoring process for the continued success of Calamco’s stake holders.”
