William “Bill” Traylor Jr., president of Orlando-based Traylor Chemical & Supply Co., received the prestigious Florida Fertilizer & Agrichemical Association (FFAA) Lifetime Achievement Award during FFAA’s 76th Annual Meeting recently in Palm Beach. The award is given annually to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary involvement, leadership, and contributions to the association and the Florida fertilizer and crop protection industry. A graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, Traylor joined the family business founded in 1952 by his father, W. Leroy Traylor. Today, Traylor Chemical & Supply Co. is one of the nation’s leading manufacturers and distributors of micronutrients and chelates used in the fertilizer industry. Traylor Chemical, with operations serving agricultural markets in Georgia, Indiana, and Texas, has expanded internationally with exports to Central and South America and Canada.

FFAA said Traylor was instrumental in increasing participation in the organization, and his expertise in chemistry and micronutrients made him a key figure in negotiating a heavy metals regulation for Florida fertilizers. He was chairman of FFAA’s board from 1995-96.

In other FFAA news, Brent Sutton was re-elected to a one-year term as FFAA chairman. He is president and general manager for Lake Alfred-based Growers Fertilizer Corp. Gaylon Pfeiffer, a business representative for BASF Corp., was re-elected vice chairman. Justin Bunch, general manager-Florida division for Crop Production Services in Mulberry, was re-elected secretary/treasurer.

FFAA members re-elected the following to serve a three-year term: David Carson, Chemical Dynamics Inc., Plant City; Keith Davis, Florida Fertilizer Co. Inc., Wauchula; Linda Lindenberg, Dow AgroSciences LLC, Melbourne Beach; Ed Lounds, Tessenderlo Kerley Inc., Fort Pierce; and Dennis Wedgworth, Wedgworth’s Inc., Belle Glade/Moore Haven. Elected for the first time are Marshall Frasier, Triangle Chemical Co., Mascotte; and Mike Roberts, AgraQuest, Inc., Winter Haven. Past directors honored for their service on the board were Sam Green, UAP, Tampa; and Traylor.
